How to cancel Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime is cancelled inside your Amazon account, and Amazon is actually one of the fairer ones about it: cancel an unused period and you’ll often get money back.

Cancelling Prime

  1. Sign in at Amazon and open Account.
  2. Find your Prime membership section.
  3. Choose to end your membership and follow the confirmation steps; Amazon will show you exactly when benefits stop.

If you’ve barely used Prime since the last charge, look for the refund wording during cancellation. Amazon has long offered full or partial refunds for unused membership periods, which makes Prime one of the few subscriptions where cancelling right after an accidental renewal isn’t a lost cause.

Prime Video Channels are separate

Add-on channels you subscribed to through Prime Video, like Paramount+ or MGM+, are separate subscriptions with their own charges. Cancelling Prime doesn’t necessarily tidy those up the way you’d expect, and they’re easy to forget. Find them under your Amazon account’s memberships and subscriptions area and cancel each one individually; our Paramount+ guide covers the channel case too.

Worth knowing

  • The free trial converts to a paid membership silently, like every trial; the two-day-reminder rule applies in full.
  • If Prime came through your mobile carrier as a perk, the billing and the cancellation live with the carrier.
  • Prime is also the classic example of a subscription justified by one delivery in November; the yearly-cost exercise will tell you whether that’s you.
